Dean and I were married in a labyrinth in 2019. We didn't know a whole lot about them at the time, but we did some research. What we learned was life-changing. It was so impactful, that a labyrinth wedding became an obvious choice.
The labyrinth is a path to a spiritual awakening. It is a one-way path that leads to the integration of one's material self with their higher self. It is symbolic of the journey of life. There are many turns, times you appear to be headed right back to the place you started. But there is only one path and it leads to the center. You cannot get lost if you stay on the path.
We entered the labyrinth separately. As we walked, there were times where we were right next to each other, but we were never truly together until we both reached the center. There were times that we were on completely opposite sides, but we were on the same path which ultimately brought us together. When we walked out, we walked together, embracing our new future as a married couple.
The labyrinth is about the journey. As you walk in, you consider what changes are needed. You determine what you want to leave in the past. With each turn, you breathe and focus your mind. The center is a place for connection with the creator. It's a place to receive a very personal message. Each person receives what is intended at that time. Exiting the labyrinth is a time to embrace the message that was received and emerge into a new season.
